We’re all aware that stainless prices have shot up, but I never realised by exactly how much.
Over the last 12 months the MEPS world average price for type 304 cold rolled stainless has gone up from US $1869 to $2718 per tonne.

Cheaper steel, will we ever see it again? I think we all know China is having a big boom with building big dams and such and has had a big effect on the steel industry and market. Fellows have told me their supplier will only partially fill their orders! Also here in the states, I have read the price of scrap metal cycles through out the year. Some hold their scrap till the high prices come around, then sell. Maybe it is time to start up that old foundry!

We used to let our 'landlord' next door take our scrap just to keep him sweet. But, since the price shot up, it's amazing how many times we've emptied our scrap bins whilst his back's turned!
