SMART Choice for Hillary Clinton
Posted by Paul Woodhouse at December 18th, 2007

Hillary and Bill Clinton - looks like neither made a real smart choice.
The Sheet Metal Workers’ International Association (SMWIA) today added their voices to those of their union brothers and sisters in the United Transportation Union (UTU) in making a SMART choice by announcing their joint support for Hillary Rodham Clinton as the next President of the United States.
You know full well that they don’t call me Topical Tommy on this blog, or any other blog for that matter, but I’m surprised I hadn’t heard about either the SMART union being formed never mind their support for Hillary Clinton as President. Then again, sheet metal unions and Hillary Clinton probably don’t gel too well to make some of your more newsworthy items.
SMART is a newly formed labor powerhouse, merging the Sheet Metal Workers’ International Association and the United Transportation Union, resulting in a combined membership of more than 230,000. SMART represents rail workers, bus operators and mechanics, transit workers, airline pilots and employees, and sheet metal workers that perform work in the building and construction trades, in production manufacturing, and in the railroad and shipyard industries. The official merger will take place in January 2008 and will give members stronger representation at the work place as well as on Capitol Hill.
“Those of us in the labor movement have endured great hardship over the past seven years in representing the interests of our respective members, as well as carrying the torch for all working persons and their families. Hillary Clinton understands our issues. She knows the importance of sound policies and programs and will deal fairly and intelligently in addressing the energy crisis, fair trade, quality and affordable health care, funding college and technical education and training, as well as protecting retirement security,” continued Sullivan. “She is second to none in understanding the need for enlightened leadership in our relations with other countries around the world.”
Personally, I’m starting to warm a bit to Hillary, but that doesn’t mean one iota in Iowa or anywhere else considering I’m not eligible to vote - eligible to pay taxes, mind. Still, maybe one day.
So, anybody for Hillary 2008?

And we’ll keep taking your taxes, too, non-yank (I couldn’t think of an American equivalent for Brits). Take that!
I think the word that may have escaped you is limey.
It carries as much barb as a damp marshmallow, though.
Yah! I ordered some pieces that I needed for my laptop, and they only cost cents! HOORAY! Small metals… white gold…. a platinum built computer… nano robots and gigantic platinum castles on the moon and mars! We have a great future with Hillary Clinton and her family! Hooray!
Hello Hillary, I am a huge supporter of you and I hope that you and Barack can do a better job in the White House if you make it. I know that our country is going to hell in a handbag, but I think that you can make a difference. Because of you, I am earning my teaching degree because you have shown me never to give up on your dream. Well, do not give up on your dream either, maybe next time we will have better luck getting you as president instead of vice-president.
Thanks and have a blessed day!!
Georgia Keith
Hillary… I am a member of Puma PAC and was a huge supporter of you, but I will NOT back barack.
principle before party….. another Democrat for McCain.
Another Democrat for McCain? Really?
There aren’t any Republicans for McCain. ;-0
Now Paul there are millions of Republicans for McCain also millions of Democrats for him
McCain 08
And the number of former Hillary supporters for McCain?
I’m just intrigued as to which McCain policy positions overlap with Hillary’s from the eyes of a PUMA?
Is voting for John McCain more in line with a Hillary Clinton worldview or is something else at play?
I’ve yet to hear a good explanation!
Yes there’s something in play here.. EXPERIENCE… obama has no major accomplishments… he has not put into congress any bills. He is not the man for the job…give me experience any day
Hillary and McCain are cut from the same cloth… McCain favors non-partisan, more than Republican.
So, if your argument about experience stands, would you have voted for McCain over Hillary seeming he obviously has more experience than her?
Also, Vivian, will you be rooting for the more experienced Biden over the inexperienced Palin in tonight’s VP debate?
I hope this messages posts the last one did not.
Hillary was the DEMOCRTIC nominee that’s why I voted for her over McCain second choice is McCain expeirence over non expeirence obama… I have my Puma group coming over to watch the vp debate…..
So what is most important to you in a presidential nominee - experience or policy positions?
What’s your opinion on Sarah Palin’s experience considering the possibility of her having to fill the ‘experienced’ McCain’s shoes is greater than Biden’s of Obama.
Is your PUMA group rooting for the more experienced Biden in tonight’s debate?
I also want to understand where you PUMAs stand on policy - with Hillary or McCain.
Do you believe judgement trumps experience?
Maybe we should put expeirence McCain and expierence Biden together…..but seeing it does not work that way we’ll have to go with first expeirence runner up McCain …. Palin did very well on the VP debate…. true she doesn’t have the time in that Biden has BUT to listen to her you would never know that…..plus
I DO NOT like obama his arrogants is nauseating…
What about something substantial like policy?
Or does experience only matter?
And what do you think about these claims about your “PUMA organization” being a Republican front: http://tinyurl.com/4tryvw
Puma definetly Not Republican based
Puma people united means action is my member
organization…people united my ass must be Republican copy cats, to the united puma Democrats.
its between the devil I know and the devil I don’t know… obama has to many corrupt buddies…..obama is (to me) uninspiring….empty words….obama wants be be president at any cost…untrustworthy.
WHEN ITS ALL SAID AND DONE HILLARY WOULD HAVE BEEN THE BEST CHOICE FOR PRESIDENT………
I have no doubt that Hillary would’ve been an exceptional President (still maybe someday), but who is her second choice?
I’m not referring to the ‘political unity my ass’ variant of PUMA, but your group, whose founder, Darragh Murphy, donated $500 to McCain’s campaign in 2000. She claimed to be an ardent Gore fan but never donated to him or any other dem. http://tinyurl.com/4tryvw
Does the experience argument not start to ring hollow with McCain’s pick of Palin?
And how do you think McCain’s experience held up in the recent economic crisis -seeming by his own admission, his experience is sorely lacking in that area?
Hum talk about Murphy I just got a prowl from her……….
I’m checking this out about Murphy’s donation to McCain eight years ago……
I gave $650.00 to Hillary and will not give a penny to obama and will not give to McCain either. These millionaires can dig deep in their own pockets.
EXPEIRENCE is just one issue against obama there’s many.
Paul are you backing obama? For what reason “because he’s the democrat” There’s such a division in the party its criminal….
The DNC is a corrupt crew I can’t stand Coward Dean, Loser Pelosi and the rest of the crooks…
what they did to Hillary was criminal… you know Florida and Michigan was hers….I actually am in shock that I feel this way about the Democratic party being I am a Dem: this party is so split I wonder if it well ever really be the same….
Does it not make more sense to sit it out or vote third party? At the end of the day you’re cutting your nose off to spite your face if you’re a Democrat and support Dem issues.
While I’m allowed to pay taxes, I’m still only a resident so can’t yet vote. Have to wait to become a citizen for that. But, given the choice, I would go Obama or third party. And I would eat my ballot before I voted Republican.
Although I’m thinking the Republicans deserve to reside over this mess for another four years until the economy has had a bit of a chance to recover.
But I wouldn’t expect Palin to be able to bring me the right change back from Mickey D’s.
