I overheard John the other day telling somebody over the phone that stainless steel sheet costs had risen 40% in the last couple of months.
In this game you tend to price jobs individually and no two are ever really alike. A particular job priced now will have a materials increase of 40%, but would’ve been 40% cheaper a couple of months ago and will invariably be cheaper in the future.
Fluctuating prices just seem to be one of those things taken as a given. One of our suppliers mentions it to us and we may have a little grumble but we have to accept the fact and the same goes for a client when we tell them the same.
It’s a case of suck it and see from top to bottom.
