Firms That Go Bump In The Night

Well it’s probably your smaller businesses that bump about as opposed to your larger ones that creak and groan for a while before giving up the ghost.
Just under a fortnight ago saw one of the bigger companies we do work for go into administration. As the Nelson Leader succinctly states:
A NELSON packaging company went into administration this week – but it was immediately bought out by a rival company and the jobs of all employees except for two senior directors have been saved.
Decorpart Ltd, of Edward Street, which makes aluminium packaging for perfumery, cosmetics, pharmaceutical and other fashion markets, has been bought out by King’s Lynn-based Bespak and has been renamed Integrated Aluminium Components.
It makes a change a company being bought out and jobs being saved round Burnley and Pendle I must admit. However, I wouldn’t have the faintest idea if the new owners would still want to throw the odd metalwork morsel our way. Saying that, I think John used to send Jasper down to fix the odd tank at short notice. Normally this occurred around the same time Jasper had planned a trip to Blackpool with his good lady.
How I miss his non-plussed hairy Scottish chops on a Monday morning after he’d had his weekend hijacked. Then again, you’d be hard pressed to tell on any other Monday morning whether his weekend had been hijacked.
Dour+Scotsman=Jasper.
It doesn’t exactly come hot on the heels of Turkingtons in Burnley going down the tubes in February, but it does mean the boys have had a bit more uncertainty on that front than they maybe would’ve liked. But, not as uncertain as those who lost their jobs after they went bust in the first place.
I’m sure things would’ve been a bit more drastic had the internet side of things not been doing its fair share.
Now I know what John was referring to when he used to burble stuff about chickens, eggs and baskets after two pints of uber Stella at the Cockhill.
